During the Gala evening organized by the Gallente Independent Progressive Alternative on YC113.04.16 in Villore, GIPA Chairman Oinkelmar used the following notes to deliver a speech to the masses.
Let me tell you again how much I appreciate you all for coming.
This system, Villore is the administrative capital of the Federation, you can find two of the three pillars of Gallentean trias politica from here. This diplomatic event is taking place all over the system. During this evening, we wish to overcome social barriers and facilitate informal dialog. With diplomacy and open discussion as our tools, we can overcome hostilities and misunderstandings, build bridges instead of machines of war.
One of the questions that are not being asked often is, what is actually freedom? Definitely not something you can touch or smell. Is it just an intangible, abstract concept An empty vessel which any politician can fill with their own pet ideologies?
Citizens, Officers, Diplomats! Freedom is the awareness that allows us to identify problems and discomfort, and look for cures. It manifests itself in ongoing vibration of the Donchian channel, or in the unexpected turns of the module prices in Dodixie. Freedom is the right to come up with a dream, foster it, fight for it and finally see it inflaming the society with passion. Freedom allows us to stay alert and challenge the establishment. Freedom is the right to create and innovate or to defend your principles
even when you're surrounded by cold, harsh walls of disbelief.
We Citizens of the Federation have been born and raised with liberty around us. Freedom and dignity are more prevalent here than in any other place in the galaxy. We have always been surrounded by freedom, swimming in it, bathing in it, diving in it. Perhaps we have a tendency to take it for granted, focusing on our affairs.
You know the old people used to tell a story where a newly wedded man goes mining mercoxit to have a good start for his family. He scans down a promising grav site and mines and mines, and when he comes back, there's no one left. His bride was gone.
We are not talking about a sudden revolution here. As long as I have lived, our freedom of choice has been diminishing. New rules and regulations are constantly rolling our of the vast halls of Federal Administration Centers. They say that there are no machines of perpetual motion but here we have one. It's like a law of physiology: a fat government leads to slender liberty.
Now don't get me wrong: our president's efforts on behalf of our country deserve our full trust and support. I salute him with reverence. He is known as a man of hard work and perseverance. The fact that we haven't heard about his accomplishments in a while
is likely to be caused by the uncooperative groups in the senate, who always strive to introduce new obstacles, regulations and taxes, to suppress joy and innovation, to block the path of common men and women in their struggle for a better life.
Let me tell you a thing: There is no society which does not rely on self-interest. You say the Caldari state doesn’t run on greed? You say the Jovians don’t run on greed? Isn't it tempting to believe that you and I are not doing it for ISK but that the enemy, or a stranger from the other side of the galaxy is?
Our economy is based on rational actors advancing their individual gains. The bureaucrats didn't help Ceul Darieux to put together his enterprise. And that's certainly not the way Jinneth Duvolle revolutionized the hardwiring technology. The greatest masterpieces of humanity have not come from the Federal Administration Centers. In this single issue there is no ambiguity in history. The eons of human endeavour have taught us a valuable lesson. When we strive to improve the conditions of the ordinary people, the freedom of productive activities, the freedom of thought, the full power of the voluntary exchange on the markets, must be released from all forms of restraint or control.
We, Citizens of the Federation, must never forget our history our principles, our values. We must stay alert when the forces of regression try to erode the foundation of our society. We can no longer procrastinate and wait that things will get better all by themselves, because we are the last guardians in the universe protecting hope from eternal darkness.
